Tang Cue Feast Day


Dongzhi Festival or Winter Solstice Festival is one of the most important festival celebrated by Chinese and East Asia during the term Dongzhi sun on December 22 in 2009 , when sunlight is weakest and daylight shortest.
The origins of this festival can be traced back to the philosophy of Dao, Yin and Yang: as balance and harmony in the cosmos, the universe. After a day of celebration, then the daylight gradually becomes longer so that positive energy is also beginning to flow in.

The philosophical significance of this is symbolized by the I Ching hexagram fu. Beginning of this festival is celebrated starting on the Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD) and continued until the Tang and Song dynasties (years 618-1279)

During the Qing dynasty (1644 - 1911) celebration is even considered as important as the celebration of spring.

In ancient times, Chinese people celebrate the Winter Solstice Festival (Dong Zhi) by visiting relatives and friends, in much the same way as the Chinese Lunar New Year.
There was a party custom, and businesses will close for today.
sticky rice balls known as "tang yuan" or we call "Onde" consumed as a symbol of family unity and harmony on this day.

But what is the winter solstice?
A solstice is an astronomical expression that describes the time of year when the sun at great distances from the equator us.
There is one point at the summer solstice, according to the longest day of the year, and another in winter, according to the shortest day of the year.
Season may vary, however, given the hemisphere we're talking about.
Winter solstice is caused by the earth reaches the point farthest from the sun, the earth around the sun when it rotates on its axis simultaneously. When this point occurs, one hemisphere is more distant from the sun and causing winter.
At the same time, the other hemisphere closer to the sun and summer.
